Puromycin dihydrochloride is a nucleoside antibiotic and protein synthesis inhibitor.
By acting as an analog of the 3'-terminal end of aminoacyl-tRNA, it prevents growth of bacteria, protozoa, algae, and mammalian cells by causing premature protein termination.
The resistance gene (puromycin acetyltransferase) gives very effective protection. It is effective against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.
