Used to detect mycobacteria (AFB cold staining)
Mycobacteria are difficult to stain because of the high proportion of lipid and wax in their cell walls. Tb-color offers a modified Ziehl-Neelsen staining, which works without heating (also known as the Kinyoun method). Pre-treatment with Sputofluol frees the bacteria from the surrounding sputum and cell material, killing unwanted microorganisms at the same time. Once stained, the acid-resistant mycobacteria keep their coloring even after treatment with strong decolorizing solutions, such as HCL-ethanol. They remain red after counterstaining with malachite green, whereas the microorganisms that are susceptible to acid, take on the green stain. The Tb-color modified Kit contains three ready-to-use solutions for staining (modified carbol-fuchsin solution), decolorization (modified HCL-ethanol) and counterstaining (modified methylene blue solution), resulting in a red Mycobacteria and blue background staining. It is an IVD / CE registered product. The package is sufficient for up to 250 applications.
