Fetal bovine serum is particularly suited for the production of virus, vaccine, monoclonal antibodies, recombinant protein and growth factors, as well as the manufacture of other bio-pharmaceutical products.

Bovine serum is the blood fraction remaining after the natural coagulation of blood, followed by centrifugation to remove any remaining red blood cells. Fetal bovine serum (FBS) containing an especially high amount of growth factors is the most widely used serum.
The production of bovine serum is tightly controlled, from the collection of serum at the slaughterhouse and throughout the whole production cycle.
