Rhodamine B is a thiol-reactive and photostable fluorescent dye. Rhodamine B isothiocyanate is an aminoxanthene that possesses carboxylic acid and isothiocyanate substituents on the pendant phenyl ring.
Rhodamine B isothiocyanate (NE)-labeled dextran is often used as a fluorescent probe for studies of endocytotic activity and to detect the migrated of marked cells. It is also suitable for perfusion studies in animals. Rhodamine B isothiocyanate–dextran has been used for in vivo zebrafish blood-brain barrier (BBB) dye diffusion assay. Dextran labeled with rhodamine B isothiocyanate for possible use in perfusion studies in animals.
Rhodamine B stains the tissue in red-violet color and emits a bright red color when fluoresced. It is highly preferred for marking insects.
