Ammonium persulphate is a strong oxidising agent. It is a radical initiator.
- Soluble in water
Ammonium persulphate is a polymerisation catalyst used with TEMED for polyacrylamide gel formation. APS has also been utilised to study protein-protein interactions via photoinitiated crosslinking chemistry . Other applications of APS include its use as a reducer and retarder in photography, the manufacture of aniline dyes, electroplating, the decolorising and deodorising of oils.
