Sudan III is used in Coloring oils, sprit, lacquers etc; also as stain for zoological, pathological and vegetable objects like wax, cutin, resin, contents of lactiferous ducts etc, which are colored red, while cellulose membranes remain uncolored. Approved by FDA for external use only.
Insoluble in water; soluble in chloroform, glacial acetic acid; moderately soluble in alcohol, ether, acetone, fixed and volatile oils, hot glycerol. Clear red solution at 1 mg/ml in toluence.
