Löffler's methylene blue solution is generally used as bacteriological counter staining of, e.g. of gonococcae, lactic acid bacteria and for visualization of the pole corpuscles of pasteurella.
It is often used in combination with Ziehl-Neelsen carbol fuchsin solution and hydrochloric acid in ethanol to stain mycobacteria. Löffler's methylene blue solution is an IVD product and CE registered, thus, it can be used in diagnostics and for laboratory accreditations.
