Beschreibung: Lipocalin-1 is a secretory protein that is highly expressed in fluids covering epithelial surfaces such as tears and respiratory secretions. This major lipid-binding protein in tears is also called tear lipocalin (TL) and von Ebner’s gland protein (VEG), as it is also a major secretion of these lingual salivary glands. In addition to lacrimal glands and lingual glands, Lipocalin-1 is secreted by nasal mucosal glands, secretory glands of the tracheobronchial tract, sweat glands, mammary glands, adrenal gland, prostate, thymus, testis and corticotrophs of the pituitary gland. Specifically, Lipocalin-1 functions to stabilize the lipid film of human tear fluid by removing harmful lipids from the human corneal surface and delivering them to the aqueous phase of tears. Lipocalin-1 may also function as a transporter of hydrophobic molecules such as bitter substances on the tongue.

Beschreibung: Mouse NGF (2.5S) was isolated from mouse submaxillary glands by method of Mobley et al (1976) and is a form of beta-NGF that has identical biological properties. NGF is known to regulate the survival and development of certain sympathetic and sensory neurons. It is a dimer with 2 identical polypeptide chains and dimeric molecular weight of approximately 26,500 Da. Isolation and purification of NGF from mouse submaxillary glands yields preparations of NGF (2.5S) with identical biological activity but with cleavages at the amino terminus (with the loss of 8 amino acids) and/or at the carboxy-terminus (with the loss of arginine). These preparations are named 2.5 NGF.

Beschreibung: Gross cystic disease is a common premenopausal disorder in which gross cysts are the predominant pathologic lesion. It is characterized by production of a fluid secretion which accumulates in the breast cysts. Gross cystic disease fluid is a pathologic secretion from breast composed of several glycoproteins, including a unique 15kDa monomer protein, GCDFP-15. The cells within the body that produce GCDFP-15 appear to be restricted primarily to those with apocrine function. Studies have found GCDFP-15 to be a highly specific and sensitive marker for breast cancer.
GCDFP-15 is expressed by apocrine sweat glands, eccrine glands (variable), minor salivary glands, bronchial glands, metaplasmic epithelium of the breast, benign sweat gland tumors of the skin and the serous cells of the submandibular gland. Breast carcinomas (primary and metastatic lesions) with apocrine features express GCDFP-15. GCDFP-15 is positive in extramammary Paget's Disease. Other tumors tested are negative.
