Beschreibung: The Gram staining method was first described in 1844 by the Danish bacteriologist Hans Christian Gram, after whom the test was named. The Gram staining test for bacteria is one of the most important tests in microbiology and is often one of the first tests performed in the identification of bacteria. The Gram staining method utilises the properties of bacterial cell walls and the stain crystal violet. Gram-positive microorganisms have a higher peptidoglycan and lower lipid content than Gram-negative bacteria in their cell walls and this makes them capable of retaining the Gram stain. This kit is supplied with two strains of bacteria and all the necessary components to carry out the Gram staining.

Beschreibung: GRAMD3 is a 432 amino acid protein that contains one GRAM domain and is encoded by a gene that maps to human chromosome 5q23.2. With 181 million base pairs encoding around 1,000 genes, chromosome 5 is about 6% of human genomic DNA. It is associated with Cockayne syndrome through the ERCC8 gene and familial adenomatous polyposis through the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) tumor suppressor gene. Treacher Collins syndrome is also chromosome 5 associated and is caused by insertions or deletions within the TCOF1 gene. Deletion of the p arm of chromosome 5 leads to Cri du chat syndrome. Deletion of 5q or chromosome 5 altogether is common in therapy-related acute myelogenous leukemias and myelodysplastic syndrome.

Beschreibung: Natural products are an unsurpassed source of chemical diversity and an ideal starting point for any screening program for pharmacologically active small molecules. Historically, natural products have been the most successful source of new drugs. The Screen-Well® natural product library offers over 500 isolated natural compounds of known structure and includes many compounds from ethnopharmacology. Compounds are provided in solution in DMSO. Individual compounds or subsets can be resupplied in gram quantities.

Beschreibung: This MAb reacts with human Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2). It is a member of the Toll-like receptor (TLR) family, which plays a fundamental role in pathogen recognition and activation of innate immunity. TLRs are highly conserved from Drosophila to humans and share structural and functional similarities. They recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) that are expressed on infectious agents, and mediate the production of cytokines necessary for the development of effective immunity. The various TLRs exhibit different patterns of expression. This gene is expressed most abundantly in peripheral blood leukocytes, and mediates host response to Gram-positive bacteria and yeast via stimulation of NF-kappaB.

Beschreibung: Members of the bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein family have antimicrobial properties and bind lipophilic substances, therefore targeting gram-negative bacteria. The bactericidal permeability increasing protein (BPI) is an antibacterial and endotoxin-neutralizing molecule that is abundant in the granules of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (neutrophil granules). Sharing structural and sequence homologies with BPI, BPIL1 (bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein-like 1) is a 458 amino acid secreted protein that contains the family’s common conserved feature of two cysteine residues that are critical for protein function. While BPIL1 is primarily expressed at low levels in tonsil tissue, it has been found to be upregulated in hypertrophic tonsils, suggesting that it may play a role in the pathogenesis of inflamed disease tissue.
