Beschreibung: Gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) acts as a glutathionase and catalyzes the transfer of the glutamyl moiety of glutathione to a variety of amino acids and dipeptide acceptors. This enzyme is located on the outer surface of the cell membrane and is widely distributed in mammalian tissues involved in absorption and secretion. In humans, hepatic GGT activity is elevated in some liver diseases. GGT1 is released into the bloodstream after liver damage, and an elevated level of the enzyme may be a useful early sign of hepatocellular carcinoma. GGT5 converts leukotriene C4 to leukotriene D4; it does not, however, convert synthetic substrates that are commonly used to assay GGT. In human serum and in human tissues, there is a marked heterogeneity in GGT, but this heterogeneity can be attributed to different glycosylation of the same peptide rather than to the products of different genes. Belonging to the gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase family, GGT6 (gamma-glutamyltransferase 6), is a 493 amino acid single-pass type II membrane protein that cleaves glutathione conjugates. GGT6 exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms.

Beschreibung: Gamma-glutamyltransferase-1 (GGT1; MIM 612346) is a membrane-bound extracellular enzyme that cleaves gamma-glutamyl peptide bonds in glutathione and other peptides and transfers the gamma-glutamyl moiety to acceptors. Autocatalytic cleavage of the GGT1 precursor polypeptide produces a heavy chain and a light chain that associate with each other to form the functional enzyme. Light chain-only GGTs, such as GGTLC2, contain a region corresponding to the GGT1 light chain, but they lack the membrane-anchoring heavy chain region (Heisterkamp et al., 2008 [PubMed 18357469]).[supplied by OMIM].

Beschreibung: Human Υ-Glutamylcyclotransferase belongs to the Transferases family, specifically the Aminoacyltransferase. Gamma-Glutamylcyclotransferase catalyzes the formation of 5-Pxoproline from Gamma-Glutamyl Dipeptides. It plays an important role in Glutathione Homeostasis. Gamma-Glutamylcyclotransferase induces the release of Cytochrome C from the mitochondria resulting in the induction of apoptosis.

Beschreibung: Transglutaminases are enzymes that catalyze the crosslinking of proteins by epsilon-gamma glutamyl lysine isopeptide bonds. While the primary structure of transglutaminases is not conserved, they all have the same amino acid sequence at their active sites and their activity is calcium-dependent. TGM2 acts as a monomer, is induced by retinoic acid, and appears to be involved in apoptosis. Finally, TGM2 is the autoantigen implicated in celiac disease.Transglutaminases are enzymes that catalyze the crosslinking of proteins by epsilon-gamma glutamyl lysine isopeptide bonds. Beschreibung: Gamma-Glutamylaminecyclotransferase is an enzyme that converts gamma-glutamylamines to free amines and 5-oxoproline which belongs to the gamma-glutamylcyclotransferase family. It shows high activity toward gamma-glutamyl-epsilon-lysine, derived from the breakdown of fibrin and contributes to degradation of proteins cross-linked by transglutaminases. It degrades the cross-link between a lysine and a glutamic acid residue from two proteins that have been cross-linked by transglutaminases. This protein adopts the newly identified cyclotransferase fold, observed in Gamma-Glutamylcyclotransferase, an enzyme with activity toward gamma-glutamyl-alpha-amino acids.

Beschreibung: GGCX is an enzyme which catalyzes the posttranslational modification of vitamin K-dependent protein. Many of these vitamin K-dependent proteins are involved in coagulation so the function of the encoded enzyme is essential for hemostasis. Mutations in this gene are associated with vitamin K-dependent coagulation defect and PXE-like disorder with multiple coagulation factor deficiency.Gamma-glutamyl carboxylase accomplishes the posttranslational modification required for the activity of all of the vitamin K-dependent proteins (Wu et al., 1991 [PubMed 1749935]). These include some of the blood coagulation and anticoagulation proteins as well as bone gamma-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla) protein (BGLAP; MIM 112260) and bone matrix protein (MGP; MIM 154870).
